Whether it’s a cheat day/ meal, don’t cheat yourself!
Being on a diet and a strict workout regime at the same time is not easy but in order to keep yourself motivated and to break the monotony, it is okay to indulge in cheat meals once in a while. The idea behind this is to take a short break from the strict diet to indulge in something that you’ve always wanted. There are a few things to consider though, like do not eat when you’re starving, plan ahead what you’ll eat, eat stuff that are rich in nutrients and cheat in moderation!!
So what then can you eat for your cheat day?
- Replace Ice- Cream with Greek yogurt
Ice-creams are very delicious and are so perfect to enjoy during the overbearing heat. But when on a diet, the gods forbid it’s a NO, reason being that it has high calorie content. So take a healthier substitute, Greek yoghurt. Greek yoghurt is somewhat low in both fats and calories than the regular ice-cream and is contains essential nutrients and the best part is, you can add a twist to it with any fresh fruit of your choice or nuts.
- Swap Regular Chocolate with Dark Chocolate
It’s true that we ought to stay away from chocolate when dieting. Well, dark chocolate is very different from regular milk chocolate. It has benefits that help such as helping with weight loss, stabilizing blood sugar, controlling appetite and reducing cravings. Dark chocolates are low in calories and high in nutrients. And it is best consumed in moderation (yes! moderation is key).
- Replace potato fries with sweet potato fries
Fries are loved and relished by everyone, but they are loaded with calories and quite greasy at the same time. If you wish to indulge in fries, you can consider a healthy substitute for regular potato fries with sweet potato fries! Avoid deep-frying, hand-cut the sweet potatoes in fingers and bake them.
- Pepperoni Pizza
Pizza is a huge go-to cheat meal. It’s usually cheap, easy to order and it doesn’t require you to leave the house if you want a night in. A major contributing factor in unhealthy pizza is the crust, cheese and meat toppings. So next time you want pizza, try getting thinner crust and less cheese.
A little pasta never hurt anyone especially with meat balls. It’s not a bad one for your cheat day, because it’s carb and protein dense and contains a small amount of fat. You can switch up, add lots of vegetables and go for chicken or a leaner source of protein. Just remember to watch portions while indulging.
Magic gist buddy!
